Introduction:
Accumulation of amyloid in and around joints
Most commonly seen in chronic hemodialysis, plasma cell dyscrasia. Also seen in RA, familial Mediterranean fever, chronic osteomyelitis
Usually changes are bilateral
Most common joints are shoulders, hips, knees, wrists
Radiograph:
Juxtaarticular soft tissue masses
Periarticular osteopenia
Subchondral cysts
Joint effusions
Erosions
Preserved joint space till late
MR:
Low- to- int signal on all pulse sequence
No paramagnetic effect on GRE thus differentiating it from PVNS
