Imaging sternoclavicular joint

Anatomy:
Freely mobile ball-and-socket synovial joint
Participates in all movements of upper extremity
Only 50% of medial end of clavicle articulates with manubrium
Has dense fibrous capsule
Supporting ligaments are interclavicular ligament, anterior and posterior sternoclavicular ligaments, costoclavicular ligaments.

Degeneration:
Best seen on oblique coronal images
Narrowing of joint space, capsular hypertrophy, osteophyte formation
