Imaging meniscal root ligaments

1. Anterior root ligament of medial meniscus:

2. Posterior root ligament of medial meniscus:
Best seen in coronal plane
Seen anterior to PCL on sagittal
Most common ligament to get damaged
The clue is body of meniscus is displaced peripherally
Commonly associated with contusion in the medial tibial plateau (mimics SONK)

3. Anterior root ligament of lateral meniscus:
Best seen in coronal
Difficult to be seen on sagittal

4. Posterior root ligament of lateral meniscus:
Swings far more medial and may mimic fragent
