Subscapularis

Origin:
Medial 2/3rd of subscapular fossa (anterior surface) of the scapula

Insertion:
Multiple tendons into lesser tuberosity

Features:
Superficial fibres extend to greater tuberosity and contribute to transverse humeral ligament

Variants:
Muscle is divided into 9 bellies, and inferior most may insert onto the humerus separately, distal to the remaining insertion onto the lesser tuberosity
A belly may insert onto coracoid process

Nerve supply:
Upper and lower subscapular nerves (C5-7)
