Bone island (Enostosis)

Asymptomatic
All age group
1-2 cm
Increase and decrease in size, and disappearance have been reported
Common: pelvis, femur and other long bones
More than 2 cm = giant bone island (common in pelvis); up to 10 cm have been reported

Pathology:
Well-defferentiated bone tissue within the marrow

Plain film:
Round or oval
Intramedullary
Homogneously sclerotic
brush borders/ radiating thorny spicules blend wit trabeculae

CT:
Sclerotic lesion with brush border

MR:

Low on both T1 and T2

Bone scan:
Hot on bone scan in less than 10%

DD:
Blastic mets
